Tems makes history by being the first Nigerian musician to be nominated for an Oscar
Temilade Openiyi, often known as Tems, is a well-known singer from Nigeria who has been nominated for the 95th Academy Awards, which will be presented on March 12, 2023.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Twitter account revealed this in the 2023 nominations list on Tuesday.
In advance of the 95th Academy Awards, which will be held in Los Angeles, Tems was nominated in the category of “Best Original Song.”
She was nominated for Best Original Song for her work with Rihanna on the song “Lift Me Up.” The group received a nomination for “Best Original Song.”
One of the soundtracks for Marvel’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” included “Lift Me Up.” The sultry song was co-written by Rihanna and Tems, produced by Ludwig Göransson, and directed by Ryan Coogler.
Many Nigerians are thrilled about the singer’s nomination because it came just one week after Snoop Dogg, a well-known American rapper, sought to collaborate with her.
