Taraba: Ibi Catholic priest kidnapped by gunmen

Taraba state’s Wukari Catholic Diocese’s Rev. Fr. Thaddeus Terhembe was kidnapped by armed men who are suspected of being kidnappers.

The incident happened early on Sunday morning.

In a news release verifying the event, the Catholic Diocese of Wukari’s communication officer, Rev. Fr. John Jerome, stated that he was kidnapped in his parish, Saint Ann’s Parish, Sarkin Kudu, in the Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba State.

In the statement, locals are urged to pray for his swift return and safety.

In a related incident, two people are reported to have been abducted in Taraba State’s capital, Jalingo, along the Gulum axis, and their personal things taken away.

Without any resistance, the abductors broke into their victim’s home and quickly took them along a trail through the bush to an unidentified location.

The incident was confirmed by Abdullahi Usman, the Taraba State Police Public Relations Officer.

In the meantime, a boat carrying more than 80 people overturned in Taraba’s Karim Lamido Local Government Area.

The boat is reported to have overturned on Saturday night on the Benue River halfway through the Binneri town of Karim Lamido.

An insider in the region Thirteen minutes after the tragedy, twelve more dead were found by local fishermen, according to Mister Jessy Danladi, who spoke with Channels Television.

He said that, fifty minutes after takeoff, the unfortunate boat was returning from a fish market in the Mayoreneyo town of the Ardo-Kola Local Government Area.

No passenger had a life jacket on since they were accustomed to the sea, the source continued.
Abdullahi Usman, the state police spokesperson, acknowledged the occurrence but stated that the divisional police officer in the region will provide the accurate number when available.
