Following significant rain, residents of Taraba State’s centre geopolitical zone, the Gashaka Local Government Area, are assessing their damages.

On Sunday, the rain fell for almost six hours, flooding several homes and sweeping away commodities worth millions of Naira. The water also destroyed domesticated animals and farm goods.

They have requested assistance from the state government and the National Emergency Management Agency, or NEMA. Additionally, they requested assistance from the zone’s National Assembly representatives.

Dauda Ali claimed that the flood that decimated Serti, the council’s administrative centre, and its surroundings had destroyed his land and dashed the hopes of other farmers who had anticipated a good crop.

He bemoaned the fact that cooperatives and private individuals had provided loans for the farms.

Goats and sheep, according to Suleiman Abba, a different resident, have vanished since the flood that wreaked havoc on the neighbourhood.

The flood, according to several of the victims who are seeking refuge in public spaces, was caused by a lack of drainage systems in the area.
