Tureta faced charges for disseminating media material labeled harmful towards Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State.

The Penal Code was said to have been contravened when he spread false and defamatory material about the current governor. As a result, accusations were made against him.

It was alleged that the defendant committed the crimes on July 18, 2024 by sharing videos of Fatima Aliyu, wife of the governor, throwing or scattering money during her birthday celebrations despite citizens bearing hunger and difficulties.

Journalists were reportedly denied access to Tureta’s arraignment at Magistrate Court 1 on Monday, allegedly due to the order of trial judge Fati Hassan.

The attorney representing Al-Mustafa Abubakar stated to reporters that Tureta refuted the accusations and submitted a verbal request for release on bail.

According to the lawyer, the judge postponed their decision on the bail application until September 6th, 2024 and ordered that the accused be held in correctional custody.
