In order to address rising food prices, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has stated that Nigeria needs to find a solution to combat terrorism, banditry, and poor road conditions.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Presidential Spokesman Ajuri Ngelale stated that President Tinubu disclosed this information during his meeting with the National Assembly delegation in Lagos.

Tinubu emphasised that poor roads, banditry, and terrorism cause 60–70% of food damage in Nigeria.

So that farmers may harvest food from their land, we need to figure out how to put an end to terrorism and banditry. Even if you cultivate food and lose 60–70% to disasters, you will still pay the price if you don’t have good roads to distribute it to the populace, he stated.

The President’s remarks coincide with the ongoing wailing of Nigerians about soaring food costs.

According to the most recent Consumer Price Index and inflation data from the National Bureau of Statistics, Nigeria’s headline and food inflation rates increased to 33.95 percent and 44.66 percent, respectively, in May 2024.
