The Nigerian Army and Department of State Service personnel are said to have prevented a planned attack by Boko Haram terrorists in Kano State’s Gezawa Local Government Area. The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, or HURIWA, has praised the Chief of Defence Staff and other security chiefs for their ongoing efforts to create long-lasting synergy in the country’s counterterrorism campaign.

HURIWA called on the heads of security to investigate methods and strategies for locating insiders in the security establishments who are purportedly undermining the war on terror by giving terrorists and other armed non-state actors who continue to be a cog in the wheel of development, national stability, security, and sustainable growth in Nigeria strategic operational information.

The rights group said in a statement that its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, provided to PlatinumPost on Saturday that the people will not understand constitutional democracy if the government, whose only constitutional duty is to ensure the security of citizens’ lives and property, does not guarantee their safety.

Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, made this announcement on Friday. Before the terrorists could assault Kano, he claimed that the military moved in and captured them.

Five AK-47 rifles, five AK-47 rifle magazines, one rocket-propelled gun (RPG), five RPG bombs, six hand grenades, five pairs of desert camouflage uniforms, ten pairs of magazine pouches, and some materials for making improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were found by the joint Nigerian Army and DSS troops during the operation.

Joint forces of the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services have effectively prevented an impending rebel attack on Kano, according to Nwachukwu. Troops of 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, working closely with the Department of State Services (DSS), carried out a well-coordinated dawn raid operation in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State early on Friday, November 3, 2023, targeting the terrorists’ hideout.

The goal of the operation was to locate and capture Boko Haram terrorists (BHT), who were allegedly plotting a significant operation in Kano State.

As a result, the soldiers moved quickly to capture two BHT suspects who are currently being held.

“This operation’s demonstration of interagency cooperation between the Nigerian Army and other security agencies demonstrates the strength of our collective resolve to defeat insurgency and other security challenges.”

In response to the development, HURIWA said that this noteworthy accomplishment merited the highest praise, considering that the populace had been subjected to months of violent attacks by terrorists, bandits, and other armed non-state actors, and that millions of Nigerians had grown generally pessimistic about the ability of the country’s armed forces to repel, weaken, destroy, and vanquish these adversaries.

As a result, HURIWA orders the military forces to fight back against terrorists and kidnappers who have abducted numerous Nigerian nationals over the years, as well as to recover and rescue all of the victims.

According to HURIWA, this is why it is happy that the president’s determination that all of Nigeria’s armed forces must cooperate and act as a unit to eliminate any threats to the country’s national security has begun to pay off.

The rights organisation called on the Chief of Defence Staff’s office, the National Security Advisor, and the other service heads to continue their excellent collaborative approach, as the ultimate goal is to eradicate terrorism and ensure everyone’s safety in the nation.
