The state publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Bemgba Iortyom, has been suspended by the party in the Mbagba Ward of the Ushongo Local Government Area of Benue State.

Peter Asende, the PDP’s chairman of the Mbagba Ward, was also suspended after it was alleged that he had conspired with Iortyom to obstruct the party’s advancements in the ward and prevent them from growing.

Following an extraordinary executive meeting at the Mbagba Council Ward headquarters in Atekombo, the ward leaders decided unanimously that Iortyom ought to be suspended for his repeated public appearances that have caused humiliation and tremendous injury to the PDP, particularly on TVC station.

The gathering expressed sadness about Iortyom’s open boasting of how he helped the Labour Party’s presidential candidate defeat the party in the general election of 2023.

“Mr. Iortyom was suspend for gross anti-party activities, insubordination, indiscipline, and non-payment of party dues over a period of time,” stated Ward Secretary Emmanuel Akaanger in announcing the meeting’s conclusion.

Following the incident, Mr. Terese Achir, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party in the Ushongo Local Government Area, has petitioned the Makurdi High Court for an Order of Temporary Injunction to suspend Iortyom.

Achir is requesting an Order of Interim Injunction prohibiting Iortyom from acting, parading, or holding himself as the Publicity Secretary of the party in Benue State while the Motion on Notice is being heard by the Honourable Court. The suit is filed under N0. MHC/246/246 with Motion N0. MHC/1092/24.
