Suspected cattle thieves caught in Jigawa

Police in Jigawa have arrested suspected cattle rustlers in a recent operation. Get details on the arrests and their impact on local crime.

Three individuals believed to be cattle rustlers have been apprehended by the Jigawa State Police Command.

On Tuesday, a statement issued to OBASANJONEWS by DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the spokesperson for the command confirmed the arrest.

He stated that on August 13, 2024 at approximately 8:05 pm, a report of distress was received. The report indicated that three (3) criminals had stolen two (2) cows from Gubusun village in Kirika Samma LGA using their green-colored operational motor vehicle Golf-3 Wagon with registration number BWR198 AM.

After receiving the report, a group of Police Officers hailing from Kirika Samma Division, with the guidance of their Divisional Police Officer, promptly conducted an inspection by stopping and searching vehicles along Kirika Samma-Kano road.

“The vehicle was intercepted successfully by the team with cows present and occupants including: (1) Yura Alhaji Gwanto, a 50-year-old male from Gubusun; (2) Mohammed Saje, a 35-year-old male from Zagari Fulani settlement; and (3) Haladu Yusuf Chakas, the driver who is also a 30-year-old male from Marma village in Kirika Samma LGA.”

The division promptly brought the vehicle, cows and suspects in for investigation.

According to him, the perpetrators admitted to taking the cows from that particular village.

The accused were brought before the court to answer for their actions.
