State of the Virtuous has our support, the Osun Assembly declares

The “State of the Virtuous” moniker for Osun State, according to the Osun State House of Assembly, is still accurate.

The Osun Assembly also said that, even though it is aware of a court decision that recognizes “Osun State” in effect, it would not become involved in the situation until it was resolved and all legal options had been exhausted.

In his inaugural speech on November 27, 2022, newly-installed governor Ademola Adeleke altered the state’s name from The State of Osun to Osun State and its designation from “The State of the Virtuous” to “The State of the Living Spring.”

Moshood Kunle Akande, the head of the house committee on media and publicity, made the news in a statement on Monday in Osogbo.

“The State of Osun House of Assembly having examined the Governor’s inaugural speech and the events of the inauguration thus resolves as follows,” the press statement stated.

“The use of the State Anthem, Crest, and Flag is governed by law and not by personal preference because it is an enactment of that legislation.

The “State of Osun Anthem, Crest and Flag Law, 2012” that was signed on December 18th, 2012, is clearly spelled out in Schedules I, II, III, IV, and V and does not leave any room for interpretation.

“Schedule I is the State Anthem, Schedule II is about the State Crest, Schedule III is about the symbolic meaning of the components in the Crest, Schedule IV is about The Flag and Schedule, and Schedule V is about the symbolic meaning of the elements in the UN,”

“Finally, even though we are aware that a court decision recognizing “Osun State” is now in effect, the Assembly would not get involved in this issue until it had been decided and all available legal options had been exhausted.

The State, however, will always be referred to as the State of the Virtuous (Ipinle Omoluabi).
