State government denies providing N1b workload allowances to Kano varsities

The Academic Staff Unions of Yusuf Maitama Sule University in Kano and Kano State University of Science and Technology, Wudil, have refuted claims that the two universities received N1 billion in workload allowances from the State Government.

There were no such payments made to the university, according to a statement on Thursday that was jointly signed by the Academic Staff Union of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, Chairman and Secretary, Dr. Aliyu Yusuf Ahmad and Dr. Muddasir Nasir, respectively.

“On Monday, January 8, 2024, the Union noticed claims in the media attributed to Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata, the Commissioner of Higher Education in Kano State, stating that the State Government had approved the disbursement of over N1 billion to Yusuf Maitama Sule University and

For the payment of Earned Academic and Excess Workload Allowances, among other obligations, to Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil.

The statement read, “In light of the foregoing, the Union wishes to draw the attention of the Government and public that the said funds have not been received by the University or members of the Union.”

The State Government was thus requested by the union to look into the issue and take appropriate action about the aforementioned payment.
