The Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Honourable Aliyu Umar Yusuf, has tasked Assembly members to make sure they closely coordinate with the Executive Branch of Government to ensure that the state’s resources are used for its inhabitants.

The House Standing Committee on Public Accounts was inaugurated on Thursday, and the speaker made this statement during his speech.
He urged the lawmakers to maintain excellent working relationships with all the ministries and agencies that were under the committee’s purview, pointing out that only such relationships would spur the state’s expansion and advancement.
Speaking, the Committee’s chairman, Alhassan Zakariya Otokiti, explained that the Auditor General is given authority by the Constitution to audit the public accounts of the state and all offices and courts, and to report his findings to the House of Assembly.
According to him, the Public Accounts Committee, among other things, performs a form of parliamentary oversight by conducting inquiries into the audited accounts.
