South-South Governors have collectively praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts in spearheading the construction of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project, a significant infrastructure development in the region.

The commendation was expressed during a meeting that took place at the Bayelsa State Government House in Yenagoa, where the governors gathered to discuss the progress of the project.

Governor Obaseki, speaking at a press conference following the meeting, highlighted the importance of the coastal highway in connecting coastal communities to major commercial centers across Nigeria once it is completed.

Additionally, the governors urged the federal government to prioritize the commencement of construction on the Calabar section of the highway to ensure timely completion.

It is worth noting that the 700-kilometer coastal highway has faced challenges, including controversies surrounding the demolition of the Landmark Beach Resort, valued at $200 million, to make way for the project.

The overall cost of the project is estimated to be N15 trillion, and the federal government’s commitment to its completion was emphasized during the meeting attended by Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, and deputy governors representing Rivers, Cross River, and Delta States.
