Senate President Godswill Akpabio was heard encouraging the Senators in a recent video tape to expect a “token” so they may take advantage of their break.

Senator Abdul Ningi claims that some members received N2 million as a break allowance, despite the fact that he has not yet received his.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio was heard encouraging the Senators in a recent video tape to expect a “token” so they may take advantage of their break.

Just as the lawmakers concluded the ministerial screening, Akpabio said that “a token has been sent to our various accounts by the Clerk of the National Assembly in order to enable all of us to enjoy our holidays.”

Naturally, the legislator then deleted the comment, which sparked online discussions.

Sen. Ningi of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) acknowledged that certain senators have received an allowance a few days following Akpabio’s comment.

Nothing has yet been credited to my account. I’ve heard that some people have received N2 million, but I haven’t. When they clean up things, hopefully [I will receive], he remarked on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday.

But he criticised Senator Akpabio’s remark, calling it unheard of.

“Some of these things, if they happen, you don’t broadcast it the way he did,” the lawmaker continued.

“I think it is a major disgrace to the Senate President as a person and to the National Assembly as an organisation. The Senate President ought to have explained the purpose of the allowances in more detail. How did he acquire the concessions? Who awarded the compensation? Is it covered by the compensation?

Senator Ningi said that the comment has caused resentment among some people, and he, like many Nigerians, finds it “difficult to take.”

“I’m not sure what N2m would do on vacation. The Bauchi Central lawmaker said, “I find it very difficult to grasp what this money is for.

Since parliamentarians do not receive a break allowance, he claims that when the senators report back to work, they must understand what would be done with the funds.
