According to reports, a key Boko Haram commander named Abu Illiya and his 32 fighters were completely eliminated by Operation Hadin Kai troops and members of the civilian joint task force.

An intelligence-led, hard-fighting patrol in the villages of Kayamari, Habasha, and Yuwe in Borno State’s Konduga Local Government Area is said to have made this possible. These villages are known Boko Haram strongholds.

Multiple intelligence sources reported that the army’s superior firepower caused the remaining terrorists to leave in disorder, abandoning their property and weapons, according to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in Lake Chad.

50 bicycles were also retrieved and burned by the army from the terrorists’ hiding places.

Soon after taking over the leadership, Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Ali, the newly appointed theatre commander of the Joint Task Force for the North East’s Operation Hadin Kai, vowed to continue efforts to put an end to the North East’s Boko Haram insurgency.

All hands must be on deck, according to the new commander, to accomplish this.
