A slain Lagos lawyer killed by police was buried today in Lagos.
Omobolanle Raheem, a female lawyer from Lagos who was allegedly shot and killed by a police officer on Christmas Day while travelling with her family, has been laid to rest.
She was buried on Tuesday in Lagos at the Vaults and Gardens cemetery (VCC-MAYFAIR), located at kilometre 36 of the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
Reports say that an assistant superintendent of police named Drambi Vandi, whose unit was stationed under the Ajah bridge, shot at Raheem’s car and hit her.
Nigerians widely condemned Raheem’s death and demanded reforms for the police force.
The Police Service Commission (PSC) agreed that Vandi should be fired right away after he killed a lawyer in Lagos at the end of December.
Vandi was also sent to Ikoyi Correctional Facility after he was charged with murder by the Lagos State Attorney-General, Moyosore Onigbanjo, SAN, and tried in Yaba Magistrate Court that same month.

“You, ASP Drambi Vandi, unlawfully killed one Omobolanle Raheem by shooting him in the chest in violation of Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015,” the accusation says. This happened on December 25, 2022, at Ajah Road along the Lekki Expressway in Lagos.
The suspended officer, however, entered a not guilty plea when he was charged with murder on Monday at the Lagos State High Court’s Tafawa Balewa Square annex.
Raheem’s passing was the second event of its kind in the month of December 2022. In the same Ajah region of the state, a police officer is also accused of killing Gafaru Buraimoh earlier this month.
