The President of Nigeria said that this is a problem that his country has had for a long time and that it is not necessary.

According to President Muhammadu Buhari, some Nigerians use misunderstandings about religion to conceal their political and economic agendas. He also argues that ongoing education is necessary to prevent the general public from being duped.

The United States Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom, Rashad Hussain, and the President met in Nouakchott, Mauritania, on Tuesday.

According to a statement from his spokesperson, Femi Adesina, the president described his private encounter with former President Donald Trump at the White House.

Buhari remembered that Trump had asked him, “Why are you killing Christians in Nigeria?” and that he had told Trump that the problem was not religious but criminal, and that some people were using religion to further their economic and sometimes political goals.

Nigeria has been dealing with this issue for quite some time, and he stated that it was unnecessary.

“Some people use religion as a sentimental tool, but thanks to improved education, people are becoming more savvy about this.” Most people simply wish to practise their faith without interference, but other people take advantage of religious misunderstandings to further their own agendas.

“Educated individuals are able to tell when someone is trying to manipulate religion for their own purposes.” They do it primarily for financial motives.

Additionally, some people use a variety of justifications, including religion, when they are incompetent.

Ambassador Hussain says that the US is also eager to work with Nigeria in the areas of formal and informal education in order to promote religious unity.

“We can accomplish a lot as a team to advance peace and racial tolerance.” “We appreciate what you are doing, and we would be happy to help you where we can,” he stated.
