The Anambra State Police Command announced that they have arrested a suspect, identified as a medical doctor hailing from Ifite, Awka.

According to police sources, Dr. Nnamdi was captured while concealing himself in the ceiling of a neighbor’s house.

“He was apprehended by the police and EFCC operatives in the ceiling of his neighbor’s room. After firing at an EFCC officer, he disposed of the weapon—a pump-action gun said to be licensed to his father—into the bushes,” a police source reported.

The suspect’s father later went to the police station, asserting that the shooting was an act of self-defense.

According to family sources, Halisu was fatally shot as his team attempted to apprehend the suspect, who had initially refused to open his residence door.

“Salisu tragically lost his life while on duty. He was part of the team dispatched to address suspected internet fraudsters, wearing only EFCC-branded jackets and no bulletproof vests,” a family member recounted.

The EFCC’s Enugu Zonal Command orchestrated the raid. Insiders reveal that the operatives initially had success, making arrests and seizing credit cards and luxury vehicles. However, issues emerged when they tried to enter the suspect’s apartment; he apparently mistook them for robbers or kidnappers.

When the suspect chose not to cooperate, EFCC operatives forced their way into his apartment. In response, the suspect opened fire, critically injuring Sahabi and wounding another officer in the hand.

The wounded operatives were quickly taken to a nearby general hospital in Awka, but there was no doctor available. They were then redirected to a private hospital, where Sahabi was pronounced dead.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing. “The suspect is in custody, and we have recovered the firearm. Additional details will be provided as our investigation continues,” said Ikenga.
