Darlington Okoye, better known by his stage name Speed Darlington, is a well-known Nigerian singer who has revealed why entertainers choose baby mamas instead of getting married.
Darlington stated in a series of videos posted on his Instagram stories that singers in the entertainment industry who marry and have children tend to fail, attributing this to the time and work needed to raise children and maintain a healthy marriage.
To support his assertion, he gave the artists FoxyP and AfricanApe as examples. He claimed that both of them lost their focus after getting married.
According to him, the reason many performers would prefer to have a baby mother rather than legalise whatever they had done with the woman giving birth to their children was their fear of remaining undetected.
He added that marriage seemed daunting and that it didn’t seem like he would want to get married, labelling spouses and children as dream destroyers for those in the business.
“A pattern is apparent. Once you become a parent, you start to lose your influence. It sounds like something I don’t want to do. It’s quite frightening,” he said.
