Shettima approves non-violent strategy to address insecurity in Southeast

Vice President Kashim Shettima is in favour of using a non-kinetic approach to fight instability in the nation’s South East.

These are extra measures that security organisations are already doing.

He said this during a group’s courtesy visit to the Presidential Villa, which was organised by Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The vice president was visited by a delegation from the Peace In South East Project (PISE-P), which offers a non-kinetic solution to the problem in the South East region. They also invited the vice president to the project’s launch.

In her justification for adopting a non-kinetic approach to address the security situation in the South East, Vice President Shettima asserted that doing so will prevent an unending conflict in the area.

He declared: “We need to investigate and implement a non-kinetic solution to the South East dilemma unless we wish to fight an unending battle of attrition. Even the most horrific wars are ultimately resolved at the negotiating table.

The way you construct bridges will dictate the extent of your progress as a people and a community. We need to empower the youth by reaching out to them. The crisis, the agitation, and the insecurity will end once we give them more authority.

Kalu emphasised earlier in his speech the necessity of a non-kinetic approach to address security issues in the region.
