Seven people have been confirmed dead in a building collapse in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Abdulrahman Mohammed, the acting Director General of the FCT Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), revealed this information during his inspection of the collapse site located along Airport Road in the nation’s capital on Sunday.

He explained that Saturday’s incident occurred because some individuals were attempting to scavenge leftover materials from a building being demolished by the Federal Capital Development Control, due to issues with land documentation.

He also confirmed that two individuals are currently receiving treatment at the hospital and urged the general public to avoid risking their lives by using demolished structures.

While the exact number of people in the building at the time of the incident has not yet been determined, officials assured citizens that the agency’s rescue team remains on site.
