A special plenary meeting of the Senate will be held to discuss President Bola Tinubu’s supplemental appropriation for the fiscal year 2024.

Yemi Adaramodu (APC, Ekiti South), the chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, revealed this in a statement on Wednesday.

He said the plenary on Thursday would cover other matters pertaining to unfinished business, motions, and constitutional and electoral issues.

“We intend to address the outstanding issues pertaining to constitutional and electoral concerns, as well as our continued oversight of the allocations. Finally, later in the year, perhaps before our yearly break, settle any unresolved invoices and motions.

Remember that the Senate and the House of Representatives were scheduled to reconvene on July 2, 2024, having begun their break last week.

The extra appropriation and emergency meeting are taking place in the midst of rumours about the president possibly buying additional planes. In order to achieve this, there were rumours that the purchase price might be covered by the supplemental budget.

However, Senate President Godswill Akpabio denied on Tuesday that the Senate had given its approval for the acquisition of a presidential aircraft.

The procurement of new aircraft for the President and Vice-President was previously suggested by the House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence.

Tinubu enacted Nigeria’s 28.7 trillion dollar budget for 2024 in January.
