Even though some people were against her nomination, the Senate confirmed Lauretta Ifeanyi-Onochie as the official chairman of the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission on Tuesday. She is the president’s special assistant for new media.
Last Friday, the Senate looked over the nominations at the National Assembly building. During the session, they also confirmed 12 more candidates.
President Muhammadu Buhari had asked the Senate to approve Lauretta Ifeanyi-Onochie’s appointment as his Special Assistant on New Media and the official Chairman of the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission. This was both praised and criticised by different groups.
In the letter, Buhari also listed 14 other people as Managing Director, Executive Director, and Board members.
One of them is Samuel Ogbokwu, who lives in the state of Bayelsa and will take over as managing director for the last two years of his predecessor’s term.
The list also includes Dr. Emem Willcox Wills (Akwa Ibom), Elder Denyanbofa Dimaro (Bayelsa State), and Hon. Orok Duke (Cross River), and Dr. Pius Odudu, who represented Abia State (Edo State).
Other important people from these states are Engineer Anthony Ekenne (Imo State), Hon. Gbenga Edema (Ondo State), Elekwachi Dimkpa (Rivers State), Alhaji Mohammed Kabir Abubakar (Nasarawa State, representing the North-Central zone), Alhaji Sadiq Samiq Sule-Ikoh (Kebbi State, North-West), and Prof. Tahir Mamman SAN.
On the list of nominees for the NDDC made by the President, Major-General Charles Airhiavbere (rtd) of Edo State put his name forward for the position of Executive Director of Finance, and Charles Ogunmola of Ondo State put his name forward for the position of Executive Director of Projects.
