Senate Approves 300% Pay Raise for CJN and Judicial Officers
The bill seeking enhanced salaries, allowances, and fringe benefits for the Chief Justice of the Federation (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, and other judicial office holders in Nigeria has been approved by the Senate with a 300 per cent increase. The bill successfully passed its third reading on Wednesday.
This approval came after the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters, chaired by Mohammed Monguno, adopted the report.
According to the lawmaker, providing adequate remuneration will enable judicial officers to concentrate on their professional growth without being burdened by financial constraints. This, in turn, will enhance their professionalism and decision-making abilities. Ensuring fair compensation for judicial officers is essential in upholding public trust in the judiciary’s impartiality and integrity.
Furthermore, he highlighted that the proposed increment has already been included in the 2024 Appropriation Act.
