Response from the White House to the ‘witch hunt’ allegations
According to his spokeswoman, President Biden was “not involved” in the decision to charge Donald Trump with federal crimes.
The White House has refuted claims that Vice President Joe Biden “weaponized” the legal system to bring charges against his main political rival, former President Donald Trump, for alleged violations of the Espionage Act.
He wasn’t concerned. At a routine press briefing on Tuesday, press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated that the president has been “very, very clear: the Department of Justice is independent.”
Leading Republicans like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy have accused Biden of “weaponizing” US law enforcement to pursue his rival. Biden has maintained that he was not involved in the choice to charge Trump.
The US president claimed last week, “I have never once – not once – suggested to the Justice Department what they should do or not do.
Tuesday, Trump made an appearance in a Miami court and entered a not guilty plea to all 37 charges, which include obstruction and failing to turn over classified documents he had kept after his term as president ended. Trump, a candidate for president in 2024, has called the accusations against him a “witch hunt.”
Republicans have charged that the government is applying different standards when looking into allegations of corruption involving Joe Biden’s son Hunter and the handling of classified information by former secretary of state Hillary Clinton.
Why are you so fervent in your pursuit of Trump but so uninterested in Hillary or Hunter? Last week, DeSantis posted on Twitter.
As vice president under Barack Obama, Biden is currently the subject of a special counsel investigation, which was started in January after classified documents from his home were found.
