Respect the APC’s position during the Speaker election, Deputy Sanwo-Olu tells Representatives
The pair have the qualities needed to lead the House, according to Sanwo-Olu.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has encouraged members-elect of the House of Representatives to obey the All Progressives Congress (APC) zoning arrangement for the leadership of the green chamber ahead of the June inauguration of the 10th National Assembly.
The Lagos Governor made this statement on Saturday while meeting Tajudeen Abbas, the APC’s nominee for speaker, and Benjamin Kalu, the party’s nominee for deputy speaker.
Sanwo-Olu stated during the visit that the National Assembly’s leadership should reflect Nigeria’s actual federal structure and political diversity, and that the pair have the necessary qualities to serve as Speaker of the House.
“Today, I witnessed representatives from many political parties and areas collaborating to choose the speaker as a team. I implore you not to stop here; but, expand your involvement and reach out in camaraderie to every member, Sanwo-Olu stated.
“I have noticed that despite having the party’s backing, you are not taking any chances or sitting back.” I implore you to make sure your participation is complete, open, and inclusive.
“Other candidates are more than capable of handling the same engagement. They will be introduced to the group for discourse because we are familiar with them. When the House is in session, we want to make sure that the party’s perspective is respected and adopted.
“I have read about the candidates running for speaker and deputy speaker. Your resume and pedigree confirm your superiority. I think you have what it takes to inspire the 360 members of the House from a variety of backgrounds to engage in real executive-legislative engagement and give our citizens tangible benefits of democracy.
“At the end of the day, your desire is about Nigerians, not about you or your chambermates. The goal must be to work together with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s upcoming administration to enhance the quality of life for the populace, the economy, and security. The greatest good must be accomplished for the most people.
