Prior to Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League match against AC Milan, a fan of the French team was stabbed by masked assailants, Italian police reported on Tuesday.

According to a statement from the police, the unidentified Frenchman was “seriously injured by two stab wounds in the leg” in Milan on Monday night.

According to the newspaper Corriere della Sera, the man was 34 years old and there was no threat to his life.

Witnesses informed police that the fight broke out in the Navigli neighbourhood of the northern Italian city between about fifty Milan supporters and French supporters.

A group of males can be seen in social media videos posted by Italian news websites on a canal side that is popular for its nightlife, cafes, and clubs.

They turn and flee from another group of men, some with baton-like weapons and others wearing hoods, as flares are set off.

Less than two months have passed since a Newcastle United fan was stabbed in the same part of the city in front of a Champions League match versus Milan.

Tuesday’s match between seven-time European champions Milan and PSG, who are presently leading Group F by two points and are expected to win after thrashing the Italians 3-0 at the Parc des Princes two weeks ago, will go place.

Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who joined PSG as a free agency in the summer of 2021 after leaving Milan as a free agent, will be making his return to the San Siro an even hotter occasion.

The result of Tuesday’s game could significantly affect both teams’ chances of making it to the Champions League knockout stages, since there are only four points separating the top four teams in the group.

Milan has not scored a goal in their first three games and is currently bottom of the group with two points.
