The largest Igbo sociocultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has cautioned Nigerians to be ready for “miracles or shocking” results from the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, or PEPT.

Ohanaeze raised concerns about the public’s elevated expectations and cited the letdown following the 2023 presidential election.

The body issued a warning that after the tribunal’s decision, a comparable situation might take place.

“Nigerians are urged to prepare themselves for conceivable shocks or miracles that may arise from the decision of the tribunal judges,” said Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the factional Secretary-General of Ohanaeze.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo recognises the general optimism around the 2023 election as a result of the new electoral rules and the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) pledge of a credible, free, and fair process.

“It was anticipated that the use of electronic voting would increase accountability and transparency, boosting public trust in the political process. But the results of the election left many Nigerians feeling discouraged and demoralised.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the premier Igbo cultural organisation, urges citizens to mentally and emotionally prepare themselves for potential shocks or miracles as Nigerians eagerly await the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal’s decision.

“Ohanaeze Ndigbo draws attention to the disappointment felt following the 2023 presidential election and emphasises the need for perseverance and reasonable expectations.

The organisation says that by doing this, it intends to promote a more secure and tranquil environment as the country waits for the tribunal’s decision.
