It is a difficult position for Dr. Betta Edu, the suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, as reliable sources indicate that the Presidency is actively looking for her replacement.

According to those acquainted with the situation, “Sen Ben AYADE, Hilliard Eta, and Amb Soni Abang are reportedly among the prominent figures lobbying for the coveted position.”

Unwavering in his resolve to fight corruption, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reportedly has Edu’s replacement in mind because of her alleged involvement in financial irregularities inside her ministry.

Given the gravity of the situation, a reliable source close to the presidency stressed that Tinubu might not wait for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s final conclusion on the ongoing inquiry.

The source claimed, “The President is adamant about combating corruption, and Edu’s possible replacement is seen as a sacrificial lamb to underscore this commitment.”

Politicians, opposition parties, and interest groups have banded together to demand that Edu be fired for alleged illicit financial transactions. This has led to calls for extensive inquiries by SERAP, renowned solicitors, and other concerned parties.

Since Edu is still reporting to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters in Abuja, her attempts to meet with President Tinubu have encountered challenges.

The controversy around Edu developed in the context of Sadiya Umar-Farouq, her predecessor, being investigated for possible corruption in the management of N37.1 billion in social intervention money while she was in office.

Many Nigerians have praised President Tinubu for his prompt action in suspending Edu, including Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, who calls for an unbiased investigation into the claims.
