“The Navy placed the order for the Naval Boat during the previous government. Since taking over the responsibilities and assets of previous administrations, President Tinubu has repeatedly said that government is a continuum.”

The yacht that is included in the 2023 supplemental budget is a naval vessel, according to the presidency, and is not intended for President Bola Tinubu’s use.

Nigerians expressed disapproval of the government’s decision to buy the president a yacht despite the dire economic conditions of their country upon learning that the yacht was included in the budget that was approved on Thursday.

However, the yacht is a naval vessel, despite rumours to the contrary, according to a statement from the Special Advisor to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

“What the budget referred to as the Presidential Yacht is actually an operational naval vessel outfitted with sophisticated security devices meant for high-profile operational scrutiny rather than the president’s personal use. The high-level security features are why it is referred to as a presidential yacht in nomenclature,” he stated in a statement released on Thursday under the heading “The Facts on the Naval Boat in 2023 Supplementary Budget.”

The Navy placed the order for the naval boat during the previous government. Considering that he inherited the debts and assets of previous administrations, President Tinubu has repeatedly stated that governance is a continuum.

“The Chief of Naval Staff’s office submitted a committed obligation to the Ministry of Defence, which included the payment request for the boat.” Over N200 billion worth of petitions were made in total, of which N62 billion were granted by the president.

Additionally, Onanuga reaffirmed President Tinubu’s dedication to enhancing the safety of the country’s waterways.

“The security of our nation and its territorial waters is President Tinubu’s primary concern. Under his direction, the federal government is allocating more funds to boost the output of our oil and gas, maritime, and blue economy sectors.
