Popular market in Kwara destroyed by fire
The well-known Oja Tuntun Market in Ilorin, the state capital of Kwara, was completely destroyed by a roaring fire on Wednesday night.
At least fifteen establishments were destroyed by the 10:30 p.m. fire.
Oja Tuntun Market has about 1,072 enterprises, 984 stands, and 27 warehouses, based on information gathered.
The Kwara State Fire Service’s spokesperson, Hassan Adekunle, acknowledged the unfortunate event while pointing out that the damage was minimal.

However, as of the time this report was filed, he was unable to determine the cause or causes of the fire.
“The fire service’s quick and effective response helped save goods and property valued at over N25 billion,” Adekunle stated.
Because an investigation is still underway, the cause of the fire cannot yet be confirmed.
The organisation advises the people of the state to make it a practise to turn off their electrical appliances before going to bed because doing so will significantly lower the likelihood of fires breaking out in their various homes, workplaces, and marketplaces.

Yesterday evening, Governor AbdulRaman Abdulrazaq paid a visit to the fire outbreak site.
It was reported that the governor expressed sympathy for the victims and praised the firefighters for their outstanding work in handling the emergency.
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki also expressed sympathy to the fire victims.
He voiced concern about the city’s constant fire outbreaks and demanded immediate action to address the issue.
In a statement, Senator Saraki’s media aide Abdulganyu Abdulqadir praised the firemen for their prompt actions.
According to HR, every action needs to be taken to stop these preventable accidents that are severely damaging people’s means of subsistence.
“My condolences to the Ojatuntun community and marketers on the regrettable fire that broke out in the market late on Wednesday night.
He declared, “This is a serious concern and I ask everyone to work together to find long-term solutions to prevent such tragic events in the future.”
