Police summon Ihedioha and Ugochinyere-Imo for murder, kidnapping, and arson
Collins Opurozor, a spokesman for the People’s Democratic Party in the state, called the development absurd and childish.
For an alleged murder, kidnapping, and arson, the Imo State Police Command has called the former governor of the state, Emeka Ihedioha; his deputy, Gerald Irona; and Ikenga Ugochinyere-Imo, the House of Representatives-elect for Ideato North and South Federal Constituency.
The invitation letter was dated March 13, 2023, with the subject line “Re: Case of Murder, Kidnapping, and Arson,” and it was addressed to Charles Ugwu, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Imo State. It was requested that the PDP chairman present the suspects for questioning on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at the State Criminal Bureau of the police command.

In a statement responding to this development, the publicity secretary of the People’s Democratic Party in Imo state, Collins Opurozor, called the development insane and puerile while claiming that the invitation is a deliberate attempt by Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo state to detain and keep prominent PDP leaders out of circulation during the House of Assembly elections scheduled for Saturday, March 18, in order to help the state government perfect the election process.
He furthered that the police operation was part of a scheme by the state’s APC-led administration to sabotage the PDP governorship primary poll, which is taking place in little over a month.
The Imo State Police Command, according to the PDP, has been heavily politicised, prompting them to also demand the removal of the present Commissioner of Police. They urged the Inspector General of Police to act promptly.
