Solomon Arase, the chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), has lauded Nigerian teenagers for their commitment to pursuing a career with the Nigeria Police Force.
He mentioned this while disclosing that within a week, the PSC had received 288,266 applications from those seeking to join the force.
He gave them his word that the Commission would make sure the current hiring process was open and merit-based.
In a statement on Tuesday, Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations, stated that Arase urged the youngsters to keep visiting the recruiting portal to submit applications for consideration for recruitment.

The notification also noted that 288 266 applications had been submitted through the employment portal as of Monday, October 23, 2023, at 7 p.m.
The announcement claims that 217,105 of the 288,266 applications that have already been submitted satisfied the minimal standards for consideration in the following phases of the hiring process.
According to the report, 217,300 young people have so far applied for general duty positions, compared to 70,676 for specialty positions. 69 042 applications have thus far been turned down due to their failure to meet the criteria for further evaluation, of which 46 868 were turned down due to age restrictions.
It stated that 18,213 specialist applications and 51,213 general duty applications had been turned down.
The portal started on Sunday, October 15, 2023, and will close on November 26, 2023, in accordance with the Federal Character Commission’s rule that qualified candidates have six weeks to apply for any open positions with government agencies.
“Applicants must be of Nigerian descent and must have a National Identification Number (NIN) in order to submit an online application.
The minimum requirement for applicants is five credits earned in no more than two sittings of the WAEC/NECO exam, or its equivalent, with passing grades in English and mathematics. Candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 25.
“SSCE statements of results or certificates relating to examinations taken before 2015 will not be accepted,” it stated. “Applicants must have a valid email address and phone number.”
It stated that the application has no financial impact at all.
