Police detain barrister filmed assaulting wife in viral video

One Barrister Ekere Sunday Ebong, 55, of plot 40 L Line Ewet Housing Estate, has been taken into custody by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command. He was captured on camera abusing his wife.

The suspect, who is known to often commit acts of domestic violence, was taken into custody on the Commissioner of Police’s (CP Olatoye Durosinmi) orders, according to a statement released on Monday by the Command’s public relations officer, SP Odiko Macdon.

In the same spirit, the CP asked family members to ensure that disagreements are resolved peacefully rather than using force, while also cautioning those who commit violent crimes in the state to stop right once.

The statement stated that following investigations, the suspect would face charges in court.

“The suspect attacked and dehumanised his wife in a video that went viral, causing multiple severe injuries. He is well known for abusing his wife violently on a regular basis.

Parts of the statement said, “The Commissioner of Police, CP Olatoye Durosinmi, ordered the arrest of the suspect to prevent murder and breakdown of law and order. As an Agency saddled with the protection of lives and property and maintenance of law and order, we cannot allow Barrister Ebong to continue this flagrant abuse of human rights.”
