The guy who was found with a double-faced jackknife on Wednesday at the Labour Party presidential campaign in Ibadan, Oyo State, has been named as Lateef Wasiu by the Oyo State Police Command.

Adewale Osifeso, the police command’s spokeswoman, said in a statement on Saturday that the suspect, who had the weapon hidden beneath his suit, had been detained by police officers at the rally’s location.

Osifeso, however, refuted the assertion that the suspect attempted to kill Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate.

However, he said that by bringing a firearm to the rally site, Wasiu violated existing rules, including the 2022 Electoral Act.

Charges have been brought against the suspect in court, according to the police spokeswoman.

“The incident was characterized by the successful deployment of operational, tactical, and intelligence assets, which was supervised under the greatest levels of professionalism,” Osifeso added.

He was detained by police officers stationed at the site for having a double-faced jackknife inside his clothing and for violating the 2022 Electoral Act and other rules by carrying a hidden weapon.

Contrary to widespread, baseless rumors, the Command asserts that Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, was not the target of an attempt on his life. Lateef Wasiu had already faced legal charges.
