Police Arrest Nine Suspects Linked to Anambra Lawmaker’s Murder (SEE PHOTOS)

The Nigerian police have apprehended nine suspects in connection with the murder of Anambra lawmaker Justice Azuka, as investigations into the tragic incident continue.

The Anambra State Police Command announced that on Thursday, their officers, in collaboration with the state vigilante operatives, arrested nine suspects who were “actively involved” in the murder of Justice Azuka, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly.

During a press briefing on Friday, Nnaghe Itam, the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, confirmed the arrest of the suspects.

Azuka, who represents Onitsha North Constituency 1 in the state legislature, was kidnapped on December 24th, 2024, in Onitsha.

On Thursday, a combined security team comprising the police and vigilante found his decomposing body on the 2nd Niger Bridge.

The Police Commissioner revealed that two pump-action guns were confiscated from the suspects after their arrest and mentioned that one of them sustained a gunshot wound to his leg during an exchange of fire with police operatives.

According to the Commissioner of Police, the arrested suspects are: Ugochukwu Onuorah (30 years old), Ikemefuna Ossai (20 years old), Ikenna Orugu (27 years old), Chibuike Obiefuna and Chinonso Olisa both aged 19, Chinedu Okoli (21 years old), David Ojini (25 years old) and notably Peter Sunday who is regarded as the most notorious among them. Peter Sunday is 20-years-old and has a large tattoo on his chest that reads “No peace for the Government.”

CP Itam additionally revealed that police operatives have successfully apprehended Chidiebere Nwosu, a kidnapping suspect in Uruagu, Nnewi. Some members of his gang involved in the attack on Rapid Response Squad personnel were neutralized following a successful operation on October 3rd, 2024.

We have neutralized over a hundred notorious criminals and successfully dismantled several criminal camps in Ufuma, Eziowelle, Achalla, Ogbaru, and numerous other locations across the State.

He thanked Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun for his guidance and overall support, and also extended his appreciation to the governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo; sister agencies; the media; residents of the state; Anambra State Vigilante operatives; civil society groups, organizations, and many others for their unwavering support during his tenure as Commissioner of Police in the state.

He assured that the trust placed in the Police and other security agencies to protect residents’ lives and properties should not be taken for granted.
