Police Arrest Murder Suspect, Foil Robbery Attempts in Lagos
Lagos police apprehend a murder suspect and successfully prevent multiple robbery attempts, reinforcing security efforts in the state.
In a major crackdown on crime, the Nigeria Police Force has apprehended numerous suspects connected to murder, armed robbery, and illegal firearm possession during recent operations throughout Lagos State. These arrests are part of the Force’s proactive strategies to combat crime and underscore its ongoing commitment to enhancing public safety and security across the nation.
In an official statement released on Sunday, titled “Effective Policing: Police Arrests Murder Suspect, Recover Exhibits, Makes Other Preventive Arrests,” ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, outlined the successful operations conducted from February 5 to 7 in 2025. These efforts led to several arrests and the seizure of illegal weapons.
“As part of its dedication to enhancing national security and reducing crime throughout the country, the Nigeria Police Force is persistently implementing proactive strategies to combat criminal activities effectively. These initiatives demonstrate a strong commitment to ensuring a safer environment for all citizens while bolstering public confidence in the security system,” according to the statement.
According to the statement, on February 7, officers from the Satellite Division in Lagos detained a suspect named Wisdom Obi, age 24, during a routine patrol at Abule Ado bus stop along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. Obi was riding an unregistered motorcycle and was discovered with a brownie pistol and 13 rounds of live ammunition hidden inside an MP3 radio.
“The statement confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody, and the motorcycle along with recovered items were documented as exhibits, while the investigation continues.”
On the same day, officers from the Orile Iganmu Division apprehended four suspects—Kadir Ibrahim, Ifeanyin John, Oduwole Shola, and Rilwan Olajuwon—who were caught trying to rob passengers stranded in a broken-down vehicle in the Ascon White Sand area.
The police urged the public to stay alert, particularly in traffic, as they warned that criminals frequently pose as street vendors to prey on unsuspecting individuals.
The statement further emphasized that the police urge citizens to remain alert and cautious of clever tactics employed by traffic robbers. These criminals disguise themselves as innocent street vendors, targeting unsuspecting individuals trapped in heavy traffic.
In a separate incident, officers from the Ikoyi Division responded to a deadly confrontation on February 5 at Falomo Square, Ikoyi. The conflict between Okeke Johnchris, aged 33, and William Wisdom escalated tragically when Okeke allegedly drove his Lexus saloon car into William, inflicting severe injuries.
According to the statement, “William was quickly taken to Gbagada General Hospital where he later passed away from his injuries.”
After the incident, detectives arrived at the scene and transported the deceased to IDH Morgue in Yaba for an autopsy. “The suspect has been arrested and is currently held by police awaiting the completion of investigations and arraignment,” continued the statement.
In response to recent events, the Nigeria Police Force has urged the public to settle disputes legally instead of turning to violence.
The Nigeria Police Force advises citizens to refrain from violent confrontations and encourages those who feel wronged to pursue appropriate legal remedies. The statement urged people not to take the law into their own hands.
