Police Apprehend Suspect in Kano Mosque Petrol Bombing Case

The arrest of the main suspect responsible for the mosque explosion in Gadan village, Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State has been confirmed by the Kano State Police Command.

According to the Commissioner of Police, Mr Usaini Gumel, a 38-year-old man named Shafi’u Abubakar used a petrol bomb to carry out the attack.

The suspect has admitted to targeting the mosque due to a longstanding family dispute over inheritance sharing.

The incident occurred on May 15, 2024, at approximately 5:20 am during the dawn prayer, resulting in several injuries.

In response to the report of the explosion, a team of security personnel, including experts in Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Chemical Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN), were immediately dispatched to the scene.

A total of 24 victims, consisting of 20 males and four children, were swiftly taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital Kano for medical treatment.

Preliminary forensic analysis has determined that the explosion was caused by a petrol bomb, and a thorough investigation is currently underway.
