The Russian ambassador was summoned by Warsaw on Sunday after alleging that a missile launched towards Ukraine had briefly entered Polish territory.

The Polish army’s Operational Command stated that a Russian air-launched missile entered Polish airspace for approximately 40 seconds near the village of Oserdow at 4:23 am local time.

The intended target of the strike was in western Ukraine, according to the command. The Foreign Ministry of Poland stated on its website that it would demand explanations from the Russian Federation regarding this violation of its airspace.

Moscow has not yet provided any comments on the incident. During a briefing on Sunday, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that its warplanes had conducted strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

In a separate incident in November 2022, a missile crashed in the Polish village of Przewodow, near the Ukrainian border, resulting in the deaths of two farmers.

While officials in Kiev swiftly attributed the projectile to Russia, Polish President Andrzej Duda suggested that it was likely fired by a Ukrainian air defense system and that there was no evidence of its Russian origin.
