The executive chairman of the Plateau Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mr. Sunday Amuna, has urged the state’s primary school teachers to reconsider their plans to go on strike.
Amuna made the request on Monday, shortly after watching as students at various primary schools in Jos and its surroundings resumed classes.
Primary school teachers in various local government districts are intending to start an industrial action due to unpaid salary arrears, according to OBASANJO NEWS24.
According to OBASANJO NEWS24, the LGAs of Bassa, Jos South, Bokkos, Pankshin, Mikkang, Langtang North, and Langtang South were home to the teachers whose wages were not paid.
“I got a letter saying that teachers are intending to go on strike because of unpaid salary arrears in Jos South, Langtang South, and many other places.
Because the previous chairmen of these areas left with these funds, it is not the administration’s fault that certain teachers’ salaries have not been paid.
“This administration believes in paying people their fair salary, so we won’t make fun of teachers’ or other employees’ salaries or incentives.
In order to protect our kids, he pleaded with the teachers who were considering going on strike. Instead, he urged them to put their plans on hold and work together to resolve the issue amicably.
Amuna bemoaned the lack of facilities and the scarcity of trained teachers for some basic topics while praising the youngsters and students of the schools visited for the early start.
Although the number of children and instructors present was fairly outstanding, these issues require immediate address.
“There is a lack of amenities, particularly in terms of furniture and other educational supplies.
But he added, “I want to reassure the people of Plateau that we will work hard to close these gaps and make sure our kids receive great education.
