Peter Obi Visits Afe Babalola to Advocate for Embattled Activist Dele Farotimi
In a move to support Dele Farotimi, Peter Obi meets with Afe Babalola, seeking intervention for the embattled activist amid legal challenges.
Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), visited Afe Babalola, SAN, a prominent Nigerian legal expert, in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
Obi had urged Babalola to take into account the “circumstances” regarding human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi, who is currently being held at Ekiti prison.
Babalola has faced significant criticism from numerous Nigerians after he requested the police to arrest Farotimi.
On Monday, the court granted Farotimi bail set at N50 million, with a requirement for a surety in the same amount.
Nevertheless, Obi has opted to attempt mediating between the two lawyers.
Social activist Moses Paul shared photos and images of Obi’s visit to Ado-Ekiti on X, stating: “Today, Mr. @PeterObi journeyed from Lagos to Ekiti State, devoting the whole day to meaningful engagements.”
He paid a visit to Aare Afe Babalola in his office at the Afe Babalola University, where they held comprehensive discussions on important matters, including the situation concerning activist and lawyer @DeleFarotimi.
Afterward, Mr. @PeterObi went to the prison facility where @DeleFarotimi is detained.
During a private meeting, he showed support and participated in an open conversation to tackle the current challenges.
