PDP NWC Overturns Ikenga Ugochinyere’s Expulsion by Ward EXCO
The PDP National Working Committee (NWC) has dismissed the expulsion of Ikenga Ugochinyere by his ward EXCO, reaffirming his status within the party and emphasizing internal unity.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared the expulsion of Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, a House of Representatives member representing Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency in Imo State, as null and void.
The PDP National Working Committee (NWC) stated that the expulsion of Ugochinyere by his Ward chapter holds no validity.
The Umuopia/Umukegwu Ward chapter of the PDP expelled Ugochinyere due to gross indiscipline, insubordination, and engaging in activities against the party.
The letter from the Ideato LGA chapter of the PDP, dated December 5, 2024, included details about Ugochinyere’s expulsion.
The letter bore the signatures of ThankGod Okeke, the chairman of the LG party, and Onyebuchi Umeh, its secretary.
Ugochinyere was expelled after the party’s disciplinary committee, in a report dated November 27, 2024, investigated him on misconduct charges according to Section 57 (1-4) of the amended PDP Constitution from 2017.
The lawmaker was first suspended from his Umuopia/Umukegwu ward on October 14, 2024, after not attending a meeting with the ward executive committee scheduled for October 5, 2024.
He was called upon to address allegations of disciplinary offenses after failing to respond to reminders and additional invitations sent on October 7, 2024.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the PDP NWC affirmed that Ugochinyere is indeed a bona fide member of the party, entitled to all corresponding rights and privileges.
The PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) has been made aware of the alleged expulsion of Hon. Ugochinyere Ikeagwuonu from the party by the Umuopia/Umukegwu Ward Chapter in Imo State, according to a statement issued by Debo Ologunagba, spokesperson for @OfficialPDPNig.
The NWC states that the claimed expulsion is null and void, having no effect because it does not align with Sections 57 (7) and 59 (3) of the PDP Constitution (amended in 2017) or our Party’s established Rules.
The party used Section 57 (7) of its Constitution to confirm Ugochinyere’s ongoing membership.
Meanwhile, over the weekend, the local government chairpersons of the PDP in Imo State appointed Ugochinyere as the party leader for the state.
Ugochinyere holds the highest-ranking elected position for a government official on the PDP platform in Imo State.
The local government leaders of the Imo PDP, who expressed their confidence in Ugochinyere, also demanded the immediate removal of Umar Damagun, the party’s acting national chairman, and Samuel Anyanwu, its national secretary. They believe this change is necessary to revitalize the opposition party.
