The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has initiated the process of reconciliation in order to unite the party ahead of the upcoming 2026 governorship election.

The party’s leadership, from the state level down to the ward level, convened at the State Party Secretariat in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday to strategize and foster unity within the party in preparation for the crucial election.
During the event, which was dubbed the ‘Unity Meeting’, Senator Biodun Olujimi emphasized the importance of party leaders coming together and revitalizing the party’s standing.
She urged them to forgive one another and think innovatively about how to generate resources for the party, thereby restoring it to its former prominence.
Senator Olujimi expressed her concern about the current state of the PDP, stating that it is a mere shadow of its former self.
She stressed the significance of unity and the need to prioritize the purpose of the congress. She emphasized the importance of open communication at the ward level to ensure that all aspects of the party are functioning effectively.
Additionally, she urged party members to think creatively, pool their resources, and bring out the best in the party, warning that failure to do so would be a waste of time.
The State Party Chairman, Engr. Alaba Agboola, revealed that a reconciliation committee has been established to unite the party’s leaders.
He announced that Hon. Kehinde Odebunmi has been appointed as the Chairman of the reconciliation committee, with Rt. Hon. Tunji Odeyemi serving as a member. Agboola acknowledged that the party has faced challenges with leadership and internal divisions, particularly after the previous gubernatorial election, which resulted in a significant number of party members defecting to the SDP.
As a result, the party has struggled to bring its members together. However, Agboola expressed optimism about the current efforts to salvage the party, highlighting the collaboration of leaders who had not previously worked together.
