PDP Governors Dismiss Claims of Supporting El-Rufai/Obi 2027 Presidential Ticket
PDP governors have denied working towards a joint presidential ticket for Nasir El-Rufai and Peter Obi in the 2027 elections, calling the reports false.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has refuted claims that certain members are supporting a possible 2027 presidential ticket with former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi.
In a statement issued on Saturday by Emmanuel Agbo, the Forum’s Director General, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and the PDP governors reiterated their commitment to backing any candidate who wins the party’s nomination.
This clarification comes in response to reports suggesting that five PDP governors supported an El-Rufai/Obi ticket.
The PDP Governors’ Forum firmly denied these allegations, calling them misleading and provocative.
The forum dismissed the speculation and declared, “It is essential for the PDP Governors’ Forum, led by Bauchi State Governor Senator Bala Mohammed, to strongly denounce the offensive and provocative publications and rumors spread by negative forces and their agents. These individuals cannot tolerate this Forum’s boldness in challenging their leadership failures…”
The statement also condemned efforts to create rifts within the party, claiming that some individuals were attempting to weaken the opposition and undermine Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
Emphasizing the party’s unity and dedication to governance, the forum stated, “The PDP Governors’ Forum does not associate with these individuals nor entertains any discussion or agreement regarding selling out the PDP through disreputable figures purportedly secretly backing a possible Nasir El-Rufai/Peter Obi presidential ticket for the 2027 election.”
The governors stressed their commitment to tackling economic challenges, despite pressures from the ruling APC, and rejected attempts to undermine their efforts.
