PDP Expels Outspoken Reps Member, Ugochinyere
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expelled vocal House of Representatives member, Ugochinyere, citing internal party disagreements as the reason for the decision.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has ousted Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the vocal House of Representatives member for Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency in Imo State.
The party stated that the spokesperson for the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) was expelled due to indiscipline, insubordination, and engaging in activities against the party.
In a statement on Friday, Lancelot Obiak, the Publicity Secretary of Imo PDP, confirmed that the party’s Ideato Local Government Area chapter approved the expulsion.
The decision was detailed in a letter dated December 5, 2024, and signed by the LGA Chairman, ThankGod Okeke, along with Secretary Onyebuchi Umeh.
The statement clarified that the expulsion was communicated through a letter from the Ideato LGA chapter of the party, dated December 5, 2024. It was signed by both Hon. ThankGod Okeke, the LGA Chairman, and Onyebuchi Umeh, the Secretary. The letter was addressed to the State Chairman.
Ugochinyere was expelled following a report from the party’s disciplinary committee dated November 27, 2024. This report investigated charges of misconduct in accordance with Section 57 (1-4) of the amended PDP constitution from 2017.
As per the PDP, Ugochinyere was previously suspended from his Umuopia/Umukegwu ward on October 14, 2024.
The suspension followed his failure to attend a meeting with the ward’s executive committee on October 5, 2024, where he was expected to address allegations of misconduct. Despite reminders and an additional invitation sent on October 7, 2024, Ugochinyere reportedly did not reply.
The statement also mentioned: “After receiving the report, the LGA Executive Committee of Ideato North convened on December 5th, 2024, and unanimously approved the disciplinary committee’s findings.”
The expulsion letter declared: “As a result, Hon. Imo Ugochinyere Ikeagwonu is immediately expelled from the party (PDP) and no longer holds membership in the Peoples Democratic Party at Umuopia/Umukegwu ward of Ideato North LGA.”
Ugochinyere faced disciplinary action due to multiple allegations, such as extended absence from party meetings and activities, which violated Section 58(1)(e) of the PDP constitution.
He was also charged with unauthorized publicity of internal disputes, establishing parallel party structures, and making public statements that discredited the party and its leadership.
Attempts to contact Ugochinyere for his comments were unsuccessful at the time this report was prepared.
