Due to infractions of the state’s operating guidelines, the Oyo State government on Monday closed down a pharmacy.
The Oyo State Veterinary Practising Premises Registration Regulation of 2018, the Oyo State Private Veterinary Premises and Veterinary Establishment Law, 2017, and the Animal Diseases Control Act, 2022, according to the state government, were all violated by the FinRel Pharmacy Supermarket and Bakery in Ibadan.
Olasunkanmi Olaleye, commissioner for agriculture and rural development, released a statement on Tuesday informing the press of the development.
Olaleye claimed that the pharmacy was running an unauthorised veterinary pharmacy and providing veterinary therapeutic services that could be harmful to the state’s citizens’ health.
Olaleye claimed that the action is consistent with government attempts to control and stop the spread of diseases.
The owner of the property was running an unauthorised veterinary pharmacy and providing veterinary clinical services without a licence, the minister continued, which was uncovered through surveillance by the ministry.
“We found through our surveillance that the owner of the property is operating an illegal veterinary pharmacy and providing veterinary clinical services without being registered with the Veterinary Council of Nigeria and Oyo State Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, which is against the law,
“He was using an unapproved location for the sale of Veterinary products as well as the treatment of sick animals that can pose a health risk to humans, as customers can contract zoonotic diseases from the location,” said the prosecutor.
