Alex Otti’s election as governor of Abia has been upheld by the Supreme Court. Justice Uwani Abba-Aji, in delivering the judgment, dismissed the appeal against Otti’s victory, stating that the appeal by the PDP lacked merit.
The appeals were filed by the candidates of the PDP and APC, Chief Okey Ahiwe and Chief Ikechi Emenike, respectively.
The Independent National Electoral Commission had previously declared Otti as the winner of the election, with 175,466 votes, defeating Ahiwe who scored 88,529 votes. Both Ahiwe and Emenike challenged the outcome of the election, but their petitions were dismissed by the Abia State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal and the Court of Appeal in Lagos.
