Former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has revealed that God has directed him not to contest in any election come 2027.
Ortom made this statement during a courtesy visit by the People`s Democratic Party (PDP) G-14 members on Tuesday in Makurdi.
The G-14 members consist of PDP elders from 14 Tiv-speaking local government areas in Benue.
Ortom admitted that he failed to consult God before contesting the 2023 election, which led to his defeat.

Reflecting on this, he stated, “I knew why I lost the election in 2023. I didn`t consult God. My people purchased the forms for me, and I accepted without seeking His guidance.” He emphasized that he now has no choice but to follow God`s wish.
The former governor also expressed his determination to support the PDP`s efforts to reclaim the Benue Government House in 2027. Despite stepping away from electoral contests, Ortom assured that he would continue to contribute to the party`s success.
Additionally, Ortom spoke about the personal sacrifices he made while serving as governor, including prioritizing state matters over family and friends.
Though he initially planned to take a sabbatical after leaving office, party elders convinced him to remain engaged with the party`s activities.
Ortom`s decision marks a significant moment for the PDP as it strategizes for future elections in the state.
