Oil thief camps were destroyed by Nigerian Army troops working with members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Delta State’s Owahwa Creek Local Government Area.

According to a statement from Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, the soldiers found 12 active illegal refining sites, 60 crude oil cooking ovens, 14 reservoirs, six wooden boats loaded with stolen crude and 470 sacks of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) hidden in the camps.

The soldiers also stopped a car in Ogbodu, a hamlet in Delta State’s Udu Local Government Area, that was allegedly carrying 25 polythene bags of suspected AGO that had been illegally refined.

The report reads, “In a similar operation, also conducted on September 2, 2023, troops of 3 Battalion intercepted two wooden boats ladened with stolen crude in Tsekelewu, Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State.”

According to the statement, two suspects were detained by the forces in connection with the crime, and both the suspects and the illegal goods were given to NSCDC agents working with Tantita Security Services.

To help security forces improve existing operations to stop economic sabotage in the nation, Nwachukwu asked the general public to constantly report suspected acts of sabotage or criminality.
