The Ondo State Executive Council convenes today in Akure, the state capital, following a three-month break.

Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa will chair the first meeting after the opposing factions agreed to a peace accord at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reconciliation summit in Abuja over the weekend.

The decision requiring the deputy governor to submit an undated letter of resignation, however, is being contested by certain elite.

The meeting has been confirmed by Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, who also announced that the deputy governor will serve as vice chairman.

Aiyedatiwa has been in Abuja for several weeks, fighting the House of Assembly’s impeachment process. Sources claimed that Aiyedatiwa had returned to Akure, but the commissioner was unable to confirm this to reporters last night.

At the peace conference, the House of Assembly was instructed to shelve the impeachment process, giving him a reprieve.

According to a source, the next executive meeting is scheduled for around three months from now. It was chaired by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu during his September return from medical leave of absence. The meeting was conducted in Ibadan.

“Today’s (Thursday) exco meeting demonstrates that all parties are adhering to the agreement made with Tinubu.

“The development of Ondo State is our only priority, and it should be top of mind for all of us right now.”

Concerned Elite of Ondo State, an organisation under the direction of Dr. Olanrewaju Akeredolu, has criticised the decision that Aiyedatiwa ought to sign a resignation letter with a postdated date.

Additionally, it declared that asking holders of unelected political position to supervise elected officials was unconstitutional.

President Tinubu could not have issued an order that went against the word and spirit of the constitution, according to the group, which chastised Olamide Oladiji, the Speaker of the Ondo Assembly, for reading the resolution on the floor of the Assembly.

Additionally, it claimed that there was no agreement to give authority to Aiyedatiwa, accusing the Speaker of distorting the truth to serve a particular agenda.
