Julien Alfred of Saint Lucia sprinted to a magical Olympic triumph in the 100 meters event on Saturday, securing her place in history and bringing home the Caribbean nation’s inaugural Games medal.
At a rain-soaked Stade de France, the 23-year-old athlete shocked reigning 100m world champion Sha’Carri Richardson with an impressive performance to claim gold in 10.72sec – resulting in an electrifying upset.
Alfred dominated the race from beginning to end and finished with a comfortable lead over Richardson, who secured second place in 10.87 seconds, while Melissa Jefferson claimed third position for America clocking at 10.92 seconds.
